Pottery for Thinking.

When everything has been done, what can you do? If it's not for thinking, then what are you doing?
I am in the process of writing this page. You'll have to come back later.

Look at a form and see it's shape. See the outline. See how it cuts into the space around it. There is it's function.
Making pottery is easy. You make from the various materials a ceramic object. But was it a worthwhile activity? Has this object the special characteristics belonging to a piece of pottery. It might in fact be a ceramic art object. Or it might have some personal or social features which you think are impressive. The question I am asking is whether the object now shows the signs of a piece of pottery. Not all ceramic objects achieve this. They may in fact be classified as something else, such as art, or sculpture. By looking for the features that generally define the nature of pottery in it's standard, natural appearance, then there is a beginning.

Pottery is for thinking about the impact of the objects we make, and how they have an affect on the environment- the environment that sits immediately around it. Our thinking does the same thing.
